Mad River is a different type of golf club. Our world-class course and its beautiful country setting, the dedication entirely to the game of golf, our members and their understated values, the few simple guidelines we follow - all these point to a club unlike the typical city golf club. The following statements summarize the Mad River values for all those who seek a golf club experience where love of the game is the only rule that is necessary. These values guide all aspects of the Club's operation.

This is Our Club

Mad River is a friendly, member owned golf club that emphasizes traditional golfing values and enjoyment of the game. We provide high-quality golf at a very reasonable annual cost to golfers at every level of accomplishment. Because we are committed to the development of players of both sexes and all ages, Mad River is a true family golf club.

We Respect Fellow Players and their Guests

There is no hierarchy at Mad River. All players are treated equally well. We dress and act in a way that will not offend others and let others enjoy their game as they want to enjoy it. Each of us is guided by a commitment to make the game as enjoyable as possible for the following group of players, including a willingness to let faster players through. Guests are treated just like members. In return, we ask that guests respect Mad River's values, which may be different from those of their clubs.

We Respect the Game and its Traditions

Mad River’s focus is solely on golf. We are a club in the country, not a country club. We teach and adhere to the Rules and Etiquette of the game and are keenly interested in its history and evolution.

We Respect Our Golf Course

In our view, Mad River is one of the best golf clubs anywhere. We try to leave the course in better shape than we found it by replacing divots, fixing ball marks and raking bunkers. We take care not to damage the course and its equipment and do not leave refuse on the course. We drive carts with care for the course in mind. We do these things not only out of respect for others but also to limit the costs of maintenance.

We Respect Our Staff

We treat our staff as equals and members of the Mad River family. Our relationship is mutually courteous and helpful. We share the Club’s values and take joint responsibility for providing an enjoyable, high-quality golfing experience at the lowest possible annual cost. Though the Club may have an informal character, Mad River is well managed and efficient and seeks to improve its operations year after year.

We Respect Our Property

Because the members own Mad River, we take a great deal of care with our clubhouse and property. We are conscious to preserve the soil, water, wildlife and all other aspects of our property’s environment. We take pride in being responsible members of the community in which we are located.
