Presidents Message

As government restrictions ease, the club is slowly moving to a more normalized (not normal) operation. On Saturday, June 20, your Board of Directors met and made some decisions which will impact us going forward. Here are the highlights:

COVID-19 Update
I am hearing reports of positive COVID tests for members and staff at other private clubs across the Country. This outcome was inevitable, and is the primary reason we have taken such a cautious approach, especially given our close proximity to Toronto.

Ladies Days – Tuesday morning and casual Thursday afternoon are up and running. What great participation. Fun to get mixed up and play some different formats.

Hi everybody

We are getting there at last. The Wednesday men event is now officially open. The Proshop will handle the game. We reserve 4/5 tee time for the 17 of June. Starting at 12:30pm. To help the Proshop to make the foursomes, I would ask everyone to call in 2 days in advance to reserve. At the moment of reservation please give the colours of the tee you plan to play from. The terrace will be open and you will have the possibility to eat something. Maybe it will be limited the first few weeks.

See you next Wednesday

PATIENCE and Tolerance

Your Captain, Pierre LeMaire

Golf Course Update June 2020
 The recent weather has been extremely hot and dry, for this early in the season it is much dryer than usual.  When this coincides with the longest days of the year, it is difficult to keep up with the water requirements of the turf.  We had a very welcome rain event earlier this week, hopefully we have some moderate temperatures and timely rains in our future.

F&B COVID Protocols Update

Now that the patio has been open a couple weeks we have seen increased traffic in F&B. Due to the pandemic there are many changes that have been forced upon us and we are working diligently to deliver service within these new parameters.

The staff are all wearing masks and gloves and continue to hand sanitize regularly throughout the day, even with the gloves on. We believe this is the safest course of action both for staff and for you.

Based on what we have noticed over these last two weeks and feedback from the membership, I thought I’d provide the following update;

- The government controls when the clubhouse opens, it is not our decision and at this point they are not permitting use of the clubhouse.
- You may walk-through the clubhouse to access the patio, pro shop, use the washroom or exit the building.
- You may not use the self serve coffee station; we will prepare it for you.

Once you are seated on the patio;

- Only individuals within the same household are permitted to sit together on the couches.
- Once seated at any table physical distancing of 2M (6 feet) is still mandatory. Please do not move the chairs closer together.
- Your social grouping of 10 only applies if you are not socializing with others, this is impossible for us to confirm and in the interest of safety for all, this practice is not permitted at the Club this time.

I often get asked the question “How do I spin the ball and make it stop on the green like a tour player?”  The answer is, “Treat your equipment like a tour player.”  After about 70 rounds of golf, you owe it to yourself to have your wedges tested by a wedge specialist.

Morley Arnason's Story

Brian would often pick up with a 3some for 9 holes. Years ago (probably the 3rd or 4th year of Mad River ) he joined us on a Sunday afternoon. Blue tees, a strong following wind, the 17th. He hit a huge drive and was planning to lay up. I protested - “come on Brian, go for it in 2”. He said he’d have to hit a driver off the deck and the lie isn’t suitable. So I nudged his ball into a better position and he hit a beautiful fade off the bank on the left to 8 ft for his first eagle on that hole. John and Pam Newall, just exiting the green, applauded.
